David Warren
Hi I'm David. I'm 50 years old, and for the last five years I've owned and operated a software company. My wife Carrie is a practice manager for a medical practice. We've been married for 13 years, and have two grown daughters and four cats. We're both introverts and are what you might call "nerds".
Relevant Experience
When I lived in Athens I served as Secretary for the Clarke County Republican Party, so I'm familiar with parliamentary procedure and how these types of organizations run. My most effective role would be in communications, making sure homeowners are kept in the loop.
My Vision of an HOA
Police can always find something to ticket you for, but for the most part they don't. The laws let them intervene when they need to, but their goal isn't to beat the citizens into compliance with every nitpick law they can find. There's a natural balance between how aggressive police are to the citizenry, and not getting voting out of office.
Using a management company to play "bad cop" disconnects the HOA from the homeowners. If the HOA had to actually talk to residents, the desire not to be shunned by your neighbors would be a natural counterweight to the urge to "crack down".
Why We Moved Here
Why would we move into a neighborhood with an HOA you ask? Because no comparable housing without an HOA exists in this area. We spent three months going onto Zillow and selecting "No HOA" - there was a giant hole on this side of Atlanta. It's not a choice if there's only one option.
(For the nerds... I'm referring to a functionally adhesive contract because of scarcity.)
I'd Rather Not Do This
I would much rather be spending my time growing my business, so if somebody else has the time to step up I'm more than willing to take a back seat. I'm only getting involved because I'm tired of living in fear of another $5000 bill with a 30 day deadline.
